deep in the the heart of the city, there was an average man who lived in a dumpy apartment, who walked the city all day with the saddest look on his face all day.

Everyday, he would walk in the crowds of people, looking at the ground as if someone had stolen something from him.

While stopped at a cross walk, the man continuing his sullen look, gets tapped on the arm. Slowly, turning his half lit eyes to the tap and there stood, a little girl.

The little girl looked up at the man, and the man looked down at her. She was a normal little girl, but parents nowhere in sight.

"why are you so sad?" the little girl pleaded.

In a very meek voice the man replied, " oh.. you wouldn't understand little girl" With the crosswalk changing and everyone shuffling across he snapped his gaze back at the street and began is crossing.

The little girl, befuddled by the answer, stood there for a second before bounding around the street to grab the mans hand. " What do you mean, I wouldn't understand? Is it because I am too young??"

The man looks at the girl almost eye level due to the slump in his back, "no, it's not because you're too young. It is because my problem is one that only makes sense when you are in the situation."

The little girl looked away, putting her finger on her lip pensively. "well.. what do you mean by that?" Looking up at the man, the little girl said.

The man sighed deeply and moved to sit on some nearby stairs. The little girl following cocking her head inquisitively.

The man blinked slowly and puts his eyes on the little girl. "You see, my problem is, I keep finding money everywhere I go."

The little girl, sitting beside him contorts her face in a way as if to say she doesn't understand the problem.

"You see! This is what I mean, no one would understand my plight unless you yourself were in it to. You see.. I once visited the country and while there, I ran into some gypsies who for no reason, cursed me to forever be fortuitous."

The little girl, with a look of compassion on her face, "well, isn't that a good thing, doesn't it mean you'll be able to eat forever or whatever you want"

The man, rubs his face and begins to explain, " you would be correct and for a time, that was the case. At first, it was great, I quit my job and began to try and help people. The more I helped people, the more I realized people are helpless. They all began harassing me, telling me to find more and more money for them, telling me they were in dire need. It became impossible to say no to anyone.. so I had to escape, and I haven't helped anyone since.."

The little girl thought of what the man had said, and though she knew the answer, she asked anyways. "well, you know helping people is good, and you can't let some bad experiences with it ruin something good that you do for people, so, why don't you go back to helping people?"

The man, trying to keep his cool, after a brief silence said, " It's more complex than that. I have lost all mean in life. I have no reason to get up, everything I could want is handed to me and I never have any strife. Sure, I can help people, but they're only going to burn me by spending my money on something stupid anyways."

Well the girl thought about it for a second and stood up. She stood up and said, " sir, I don't know you and I am no one to tell you what to do, but what you are saying and doing is stupid. So you don't have to work anymore, so people might take advantage of you, it doesn't mean your life stops, it doesn't mean you stop helping people.

What you think was a curse is actually a gift, a gift a rare few can give to people. To only think about your problems and your feelings is selfish and wrong. You must help people anyway you can with this money you find!"

The girl sits back down hard on the steps, both of them avoiding eye contact, processing what has been said.

the man rubs his neck and sets his gaze in the direction of the little girl, muttering out the words, "will you help me?"

"Pardon me?" the girl says. The man clears his through and says again, " Will you help me? you know, give out my money and keep me on the level?"

The girl thinks about it and says, "well, as long as it's ok that I'm still in school and as long as it's ok that I can see my parents"

without hesitation the man says, "Of course!"

Without skipping a beat, the little girl looks up at the man and says, "Then, can you help me find my parents then?"
